There is a well known maxim, usually attributed to Football Coach Vince Lombardi, that "winning isn't everything; it's the only thing." However, in the decades since World War II, America's wars have not had the same clearly defined resolutions. To discuss the significance of this, the Museum's 2010 Symposium will focus on "The Termination of War." A review will be given of various wars' endings from World War I to the present, along with the factors and policy considerations involved.

The Symposium is open to the public.

Cost:    $45 per person for Admiral Nimitz Foundation members
              $55 per person for non-members

Box lunches are available on Saturday and Sunday for an additional $10 (each day). For those wishing to obtain Continuing Education Credits, they are available for $10 through Saint Edwards University. Attendees may enjoy a reception and dinner with the panelists Saturday evening in the Admiral Nimitz Museum Courtyard and Ballroom for $40 per person. The Symposium is FREE for Students (with appropriate ID -- not including meals) and students are encouraged to attend, but they MUST REGISTER. Please provide Age, Grade, and School. The schedule will diverge from previous years to allow participants to tour the new George H.W. Bush Gallery and attend various book signings and other events at the Museum location.

Historians will present overviews of pertinent subjects, and veterans of various conflicts will be on hand to share their personal experiences. Program Director Helen McDonald recently stated that "this year's program will offer the opportunity to hear from veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and up through the Gulf War, as well as a truly remarkable gathering of authors and historians."

Keynote Address: General Anthony Zinni, USMC (Ret)
General Anthony Zinni is a retired four-star General in the United States Marine Corps and a former Commander in Chief of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Presently, he is an instructor at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, a public speaker, and an author of two best-selling books on his military career and foreign affairs.
